Our History

Passion for wine has always followed Enrico Giovanelli’s history and then one of his family.

Born in Colombia, Enrico was introduced to wine by his parents and to the tasting of the world’s most important labels.

Suddelny, the extraordinary and unexpected convergence of multiple factors, occurred in the end of 2003, made it possible that the Calispone Winery, just a dream could become true with the acquisition and planting of 3 hectares of land with red grape vines (Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sagrantino). And so it was in Narni where this adventure, that almost nothing had in common with this previous experience as an engineer and financial manager, took off.

Enrico Giovanelli chooses this part of the Umbria region for its lovely landscape, its peacefulness and its highly suitable environment for fine wine production.

Wine production begins in 2006. In the same year 3 more hectares are added to the property, 75% of which meant for white grape vines (Trebbiano and Verdicchio) and the rest to red grape vines (Montepulciano), leaving enough land for the construction of the new winery that begins in late 2009.

The experience earned in the previous years while making wines in a shared winery, built the pillars for the new project: a simple, functional and environmentally sustainable facility whilst keeping in mind its architectural design, the construction materials and its inclusion in the surrounding territory.

In 2010, with the construction works almost to the end, wine-making took place in the new winery so as to test the quality of the project. In more recent years we have grown the planted area to the actual 6 hectares by adding 2 vineyards with white grape vines (Vermentino and Viognier).

Variety selection is a personal choice of the founder in accordance to his family and with the aim to the get the most from Umbria and particularly Narni’s territory.
